Apex Motion Control has released a new solution for primary and secondary packaging. In addition to decorating cakes and loading trays, the Baker-Bot cobot supports primary packaging functionality, and can be integrated into most production lines without the need for safety guarding—helping food manufacturers experience the benefits of automation for moving raw or unpackaged items from a conveyor to a container. The Baker-Bot can support secondary packaging as well, meaning that this collaborative robot can place packaged products into other containers and packages such as pre-formed boxes.

A new Flexicon Mobile Bulk Bag Discharger with Mobile Flexible Screw Conveyor allows dust-free discharging of bulk solid materials and conveying to downstream process equipment or storage vessels throughout the plant. Mounted on locking casters, the BULK-OUT BFF Series discharger has four adjustable extension posts to accommodate bulk bags 36 in. to 84 in. (914 to 2134 mm) tall. The removable bag-lifting frame with Z-CLIP strap holders allows bulk bags to be attached at ground level, then forklifted into receiving cups on the discharger frame.

Volkmann USA has unveiled a Vibratory Feeder Dosing System that automatically meters precise amounts of powders into mixers, reactors, dryers, coolers, hoppers, pneumatic vacuum conveying systems, and other process equipment. Accurate to within 1 gram depending on the material, the Vibratory Feeder Dosing System features a proprietary pneumatic piston vibrator that sets the powder or other bulk material in a uniform layer across the dosing tray while gently advancing the material toward discharge in a first-in, first-out process. The potential for agglomeration is eliminated and particle integrity is assured.

The L 310 conveyor belt labeler provides an efficient solution for C labeling and D labeling, and it enables the hinged tray to be securely sealed on one or both sides, as well as setting the benchmark in terms of sustainability. This model with its patented, servo-driven press-on brushes makes automated C labeling and D labeling of packs possible at speeds of up to 120 packs per minute, and it can take a label width of up to 500 mm. An additional perforation feature can be used as an opening aid.

SOMIC America will demonstrate its newest version of the SOMIC ReadyPack for retail-ready packaging applications at PACK EXPO 2021. Available as a tray or wraparound packer, ReadyPack collates, cartons, and closes like other SOMIC mechatronic units, but at a slower rate by design. It provides output of up to 160 products per minute, with a cartoning capacity of up to 18 units per minute as a tray packer, and 12 per minute for a wraparound unit. Customers also love its space saving small footprint, which requires just 6.5m2 or 70 square feet of floor space.
