Red Star Yeast

New fermentation capacity at the Red Star Yeast facility in Cedar Rapids, IA has reportedly significantly increased the company’s ability to serve its customers. The company marked the completion of a new fermentor with a ribbon cutting ceremony in late August. The new fermentor is now fully operational. “This expanded capacity enables us to meet growing demand and ensures reliable supply to customers in baking, nutrition, health, and biotech, which we serve through Red Star and other business units of Lesaffre,” says Lesaffre President and Red Star CEO Tom Benner. “We are committed to meeting the evolving needs of our customers across all our end markets.”

WIXON

Wixon has announced the newest addition to its dynamic sales team. Jason Baumwoll has joined Wixon as the account manager for its West Coast territory. With nearly a decade of experience in B2B food ingredient sales specifically focused on the West Coast, Baumwoll brings a wealth of industry knowledge and expertise to his new role, and will report directly to Terry Yakes, director of sales for the Industrial Ingredients division.

PMMI

The PMMI Foundation, the charitable arm of PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, has announced the culmination of a successful year of empowering young minds through its partnership with Nuts, Bolts, & Thingamajigs (NBT), the foundation of the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association. In 2023, through a $50,000 grant to NBT, the PMMI Foundation supported 27 of the 224 NBT summer manufacturing camps conducted throughout the year, benefiting 510 students. Designed for middle and high school students ages 11 to 17, the camps reportedly have fostered a deep and lasting interest in the realm of manufacturing.

Sethness Roquette

Sethness Roquette announced Sujata Malhotra has been appointed general manager for its U.S. business. She acquired the responsibilities for this position from Tom Schufreider, who has held the position for the past 10 years and will retire on December 31. Schufreider will support Malhotra as the general manager's advisor during the transition period. Holding both an MBA degree and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, Malhotra brings 25 years of industry experience to the role.

Duravant LLC announced it has acquired PPM Technologies from Stonehenge Partners. PPM is a manufacturer of conveying, coating, and thermal equipment; it designs, engineers, and manufactures processing solutions for a wide range of end markets including snack foods, confectionary, cereals, and more. PPM will enhance Duravant’s portfolio of automation solutions with new products and technologies that are complementary to those of Key Technology, a company in sorting and food handling solutions and a member of the Duravant family of operating companies.

Butter Buds Inc. recently announced John Boggs has joined the company as regional sales manager. In his new role, Boggs will be responsible for managing and growing sales of Butter Buds products to customers in Chicago and the surrounding areas. As regional sales manager, Boggs will implement effective sales strategies and lead sales efforts for his region. He will build and foster strong relationships with executive decision-makers, R&D teams, and purchasing professionals, and inform them on how Butter Buds’ ingredient solutions can help achieve sensory, nutritional and budgetary objectives. Patrick McGady, president of Handtmann Inc., recently announced the appointment of Maxwell (Max) King as vice president of sales. King brings more than 20 years of experience building successful capital equipment sales and service teams in categories as diverse as construction, education, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and the food and beverage industries. King assumed his new role managing Handtmann equipment sales on July 31, and is relocating to the Lake Forest, IL, area.

Glanbia plc

The board of Glanbia plc has announced that Siobhán Talbot intends to retire from the company after 10 years as group managing director. Talbot will step down from the position and the board at the end of 2023, and then will fully retire from the company in January 2024. Hugh McGuire (currently CEO of Glanbia Performance Nutrition) will be appointed CEO of Glanbia plc and join the Glanbia board as executive director on January 1.

BW Packaging

In response to market demands for more comprehensive packaging solutions, two BW Packaging companies—Accraply and BW Integrated Systems—have combined into a single business called BW Integrated Systems. The reorganized business strengthens the alignment of BW Packaging’s labeling, end-of-line and integration solutions. Pete Carlson, president, BW Integrated Systems, will lead the strategic alignment of the company’s labeling, end-of-line and integration teams. Accraply leader Séamus Lafferty will assume the role of executive vice president of labeling for BW Integrated Systems and will continue to drive the growth strategy for the labeling, converting and product-decoration offerings.

TekniPlex has hired veteran IT executive Rahul Goturi as its chief information officer. Goturi brings more 25 years of IT experience to the company, including a deep background with global manufacturing companies. He will replace outgoing CIO Jeff Rishel, who is retiring after a tenure spanning nearly a decade with TekniPlex. With more than 15 years of CIO-level experience, Goturi has led teams responsible for standardizing enterprise resource planning systems and processes, business intelligence, infrastructure and cybersecurity. Most recently, he spent five years as CIO for Buckman Laboratories, Inc., where he helped build the organization’s first globally centralized IT team.
