The enhanced traits include higher protein and more beta-glucan. The company acquired barley varieties and germplasm from Westbred in 2014. The acquisition included different kinds of barley, including conventional feed barleys for feed grain, forage barley varieties, and food barley varieties.

Reusable packaging maker Orbis Corp. has expanded its manufacturing facility located in Urbana, OH. The expansion adds 30% more space for the production of Orbis totes and pallets, and allows the company to add more presses and tools, increase capacity, and shorten lead times. Coupled with its favorable geographic location for freight optimization, the Urbana plant expansion reportedly will help Orbis better serve its customers nationwide.

Puratos USA recently launched its Topfil Gourmet Fresh apple fillings, a range of premium fresh apple fillings made from Honey Crisp and Granny Smith apples grown in Washington’s Yakima Valley. According to the company, the fruit fillings boast a blend of sweet and tangy flavors with a crunchy texture. Available in 3/8-inch diced and half slices, with a minimum of 60% and 70% fruit respectively, both varieties are free from artificial flavors, colors, and bio-engineered ingredients, making them suitable for use in pies, cakes, pastries, and more.
